Engagement – Su-Min & Edric – Osgoode Hall, Toronto

Engagement – Su-Min & Edric – Osgoode Hall, Toronto

Osgoode Hall has been on my list of places to photograph in Toronto for a while now. When talking to Su-Min about the theme of her wedding and deciding where to do her engagement photos, I knew Osgoode Hall would be perfect! Su-Min and fiancé Edric wants a romantic but modern theme for their big day. This heritage location is definitely a hidden gem in the hustle and bustle of downtown Toronto located just off of Queen Street and University Avenue. With it’s cobblestone walkways and beautiful architectural facade, it feels like you’ve been transported to somewhere in Europe.

I met Su-Min when she was referred to me by a good friend (and previous bride of mines) during her hunt for a wedding photographer. She was hesitant on getting engagement photos done but after much convincing I was able to win her over. I think an engagement session is very important as its a great way for the couple to get acquainted with their photographer so they are that much more comfortable come the big day. Su-Min and Edric are such a fun and lovely couple. Edric kept making jokes which kept the mood very light and relaxing. Cannot wait to see what they have in store for their guests on their big day!  I’m sure it’ll come with lots of laughs and maybe even a couple tears of joy – just a prediction.

Of course it was negative twenty degrees Celsius outside the one weekend I was hoping our mild winter held up for a double-header engagement shoot. I had the pleasure of meeting Koral and Alex through Terence and Cathy. I did both couples’ engagement photos on the same day as they had requested some funny group shots as well together. Even though the weather was subzero, Koral and Alex were dressed to impressed like it was a beautiful fall afternoon! I couldn’t help but applaud Koral for rocking a pretty little red dress sans leggings or stockings. This adorable couple kept each other warm in between shots – so cute so that it melts my heart!

It was a fairly cold day – negative twenty degrees Celsius with the wind chill – considering our warmer than usual Canadian winter. Of course the one weekend where we drop way below zero with bone chilling winds is the day we wished it was warmer for a photo shoot. Regardless of the frigid weather and chilling winds, this adorable couple endure it for their engagement photos. Meet Cathy and Terence! They wanted to capture the rustic and brightly lit downtown cityscapes for their photos. We took advantage of the Yonge and Dundas scramble intersection – or as Terence calls it, “the blitz” – and Massey Hall to accomplish their desired look. Can I just call out how photogenic Cathy is?! She makes it impossible to not want to just focus on her all the time! Looking forward to capturing their big day in July. Until then enjoy the highlights of their engagement shoot below.

Engagement Session – Diana & Shay – Milton, Ontario | Karen Tran Photography

Engagement Session – Diana & Shay – Milton, Ontario | Karen Tran Photography

It was the perfect morning for an engagement shoot. The weather was just starting to warm up and although it called for thunderstorms, we all know cloudy weather is the perfect natural filter. Shay is super shy in front of the camera to the point where he almost wanted to back out of the session all together. I’ve known Diana for over nine years so getting her comfortable in front of the camera was not a problem. Playing on our relationship and theirs, I just kept talking to them from behind the lens and snapping as I went along. The last thing anyone wants is awkward people doing awkward poses. This was the couple’s first time in Milton as well (to visit me) so it was a day of many firsts for the soon-to-be newlyweds. Looking forward to their big day in June!
